I thought of this Diane Rehm Show, aired last week, about the decrepit state of US infrastructure, as soon as I heard of the bridge collapse in Minneapolis. The American Society for Civil Engineers rates 160,570, or 27% of US bridges, including a third of all urban bridges, as structurally deficient or functionally obsolete. That’s a lot of bridges, and I bet a lot of them look like good bridges, too. I wish I could tell which was which. I’m certain that the people in Minneapolis wish they could tell, too.
