mb and i are considering jumping on the netflix train. do you people subscribe to this service? if so, which plans do you use? we are trying to decide whether we should get one or two dvds at a time. we are uncertain whether we would actually watch two dvds a weekend, which calls into question the utility of signing up for two at a time.
thanks for any advice.
Unfortunately, the only advices I can give is no advice at all. We rent from Blockbuster. However, when we do rent, we find that one movie suffices.

we do netflix and actually are lavish and do 3 at a time.
this is because we have gotten into watching Homocide: Life on the Streets…and/or Monty Python
and so, we keep a DVD with a tv show.
the other two are split between movies we would watch together and movies only i would watch. i often watch flicks that t doesn’t have the patience for and a lot of foreign flicks (mainly latin american…under the pretext of needing to know what’s out there so that i can use them in my teaching)
3 works nicely, also becuase i go to bed later than t…though, lately, with the amoung of work i’ve been doing on articles and conference presentations i haven’t gotten much movie watching done.

Thanks for the advice. We are probably going to sign up for Netflix later tonight (for the one movie plan), and see how it goes. I guess we can always upgrade if we want to increase the extravagance.

we would welcome advice on movies to see, too, from those of you who actually watch movies more than once every couple of years.

My mother subscribed to netflix for my family and we get 3 movies at a any given time. I think it’s great and personally I wish we got 5 movies out at a time because I have about 60 movies on my list that I’m waiting to take out from them.
It was great for finding old or rare movies that you can’t find at the movie stores around here.

we’ve just watched metropolis by fritz lang…it’s a silent movie and stellar. you won’t be able to watch sci-fi (that is provided you actually start watching movies and enjoy the genre the same way)
also the wallace and gromit anamations are really quite good.
and, as i had said in an earlier post…the triplets of bellevile is good (but that too is anamation)
whale rider is, if you haven’t seen it, a really good movie…
but i don’t know what you’d like
The Big Lebowski is one of the funniest movies of all times…but you have to like the screwed up take on reality of the Coen brothers…and you have to like to quote strange movie lines to eachother…otherwise you probably would think it stupid

Like Jeremy said two weeks ago, Crash. Avoid Garden State. I second Whale Rider. Get Spellbound (either the documentary about spelling bees or the Hitchcock classic, although I was really referring to the documentary): if Neflix doesn’t have it, I’ll send you my copy.

here is a list of flicks, you may have seen them you may have not, largely they are chosen on strength of story and character development
